Causes of Spondylitis

Spondylitis, characterized by inflammation of the vertebrae, can have multifaceted origins. Ankylosing spondylitis, a form of autoimmune spondylitis, is linked to genetic factors and involves the body’s immune system mistakenly attacking the spine. Infections, particularly in the spine, can also trigger spondylitis. Trauma or injuries, such as fractures, can contribute to inflammation in the vertebrae. Additionally, the wear and tear associated with aging may lead to degenerative spondylitis. Genetic predisposition plays a role in various types of spondylitis, making certain individuals more susceptible. Lifestyle factors like poor posture, sedentary habits, and smoking can further increase the risk of spondylitis. Understanding this spectrum of causes is vital for accurate diagnosis and the development of effective treatment strategies tailored to the specific type of spondylitis an individual may be experiencing.

Treatment of Spondylitis

According to Ayurveda, the symptoms of cervical spondylosis are due to Vata Dosha. Whereas, there are several cervical spondylosis treatments in Ayurveda that have treated the condition naturally.

  • Ayurvedic practitioners may recommend dietary changes to address the underlying causes of spondylitis. A diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and avoiding inflammatory substances like excessive caffeine and processed foods, can be beneficial.
